Suppose your plan calls for straight crosscuts, pilot holes, screws and sanding. Those are the requirements. A particular brand, battery platform or machine is not the requirement.

Depending on the plan and material, possible cutting options can include an appropriate handsaw or a powered saw designed for the required operation. Do not choose a cutting method from this article alone: confirm that the tool is suitable for the material and operation, and follow the manufacturer’s setup, guarding, support and operating instructions. 6. Capability #4 — Drill & Predrill
A drill is one of the most versatile tools in a simple beginner setup because many projects require holes, pilot holes or countersinking before fastening.
A drill/driver is one common way to cover drilling and fastening operations in simple projects, but the exact tool, bit and setup should come from the requirements of the plan, material, fastener and tool manufacturer. Secure the work as the tool instructions require and use only compatible bits and accessories.
If a plan calls for pilot holes, countersinking or another preparation step, treat that as a project requirement rather than assuming one drilling method applies to every material and fastener combination.
7. Capability #5 — Drive Fasteners
If the project uses screws, you need to seat them securely without stripping the head, damaging the material or driving them so aggressively that the joint fails.
